DRAGONS Legends and Lore of Dinosaurs altered our homeschooling day. In a good way. A very good way.
The Postman knocked at the door. My children answered, saw it was a package and got excited. “What is it, Mommy?” they excitedly asked as they crowded around. When we opened it, their excitement shot up even higher. Well, there went the homeschooling plans for the day. For the next hour or so, my four grade school students and I lay on the floor and oohed and awwed our way through this book.
This book is utterly gorgeous. It’s colorful. It’s interactive. It’s exciting for children with it’s many flaps, fold-outs and envelopes. It’s informative. It holds Mom’s attention as well as children’s. It’s Biblical. What else could we want?
Were dragons real? That is the question examined by this book. Could dragons have, in fact, been dinosaurs? Is there evidence that mankind has ever encountered dragons? Using in-depth historical data, we find out that there are many stories throughout history that testify to the validity of the legend of the dragon. Not to mention surviving cave drawings that can hardly be anything but these wonderful creatures. And, of course, the Bible treats them as real (which, for Christians, is the most important proof we have).
This book was enjoyed by all of my children. The older ones (junior high and high school age) got hold of it after my younger ones finished it and they, too, loved it. It is not suitable for younger children to read through on their own due to the advanced vocabulary. It is now a valued resource for our homeschool and I would unhesitatingly recommend it to anyone (though some might find that some of the pictures are a bit over the top for them; for us, we loved them). After we finished reading this book, my children couldn’t wait to break out the art supplies and create some dragons of their own.
My advice? Get this book…now.
