I Timothy 6: 14-16, That thou keep this commandment without spot, unrebukable, until the appearing of our Lord Jesus Christ: Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; Who only hath immortality, dwelling in the light which no man can approach unto; whom no man hath seen, nor can see: to whom be honour and power everlasting. Amen.
There is a disturbing trend in some modern churches: that of making Christ accessible to the world. In order to “gain the world” or rather worldlings, many modern pastors and Christians compromise truth and downplay Jesus’s demands. To reach those who otherwise wouldn’t care, Jesus is often portrayed as cool.
Cool? Jesus? Lord of Lords, King of Kings, Creator, Sustainer, Redeemer and Savior, yes…but cool?
But that’s not all. The church that Christ died to establish? Well, that church has to be made relevant, must be in tune with the times, absolutely has to be seeker friendly…or folks just won’t be interested.
Well, okay, yes, I agree, the Body of Christ must be relevant and we must be seeker friendly but there the similarities end. See, it isn’t a modern worldly sin-filled society that the church needs to be relevant to, it is the Lord; and the only Seeker we need to be worried about pleasing is the God Who seeks us and finds us according to His will alone.
We need to forget about the new ways and embrace Jesus’s ways. His Word matters. It matters to Him and it must matter to us. Our man made ways of bringing in the crowds isn’t pleasing to Christ. The idea that we must be like the world and make Jesus the world’s buddy in order to save souls is sickening.
And if it’s sickening to us, what must it be to Christ?
Now for your thoughts…
How can the church best return to the Way of Truth? What are the modern ways that must first be discarded before we can?
