I am the mother of six sons who have had little in the way of godly manhood modeled to them. Because of this I am always on the lookout for books grounded in Scripture and Scriptural ideals, those bastions of knowledge and wisdom, for my boys that will help them make the transition from boyhood to manhood. I look for several things in the books I offer my sons.
I want books that will:
- set forth a realistic and godly model of manhood
- challenge them
- help them to set goals and follow through
- give them godly heroes
- help them build their character
- help them develop a strong work ethic
- help them become godly husbands, fathers, workers
The Book of Man pretty much does all of those. William Bennett is one of those visionaries that sees the decline all around us and, unlike those that just sit there and complain, he gets up and does something about it. We are blessed that he does.
The Book of Man is not something to give to your son and just set him loose with it; nothing wrong with that but you’ll miss many opportunities if you do. There is much worthy of discussion in The Book of Man and if you just give it to your son and leave him alone with it, you will be missing a powerful opportunity to bond with him, help him grow and enjoy some great discussions.
I highly recommend this book.
